Ir. Paula van Lieshout

Paula van Lieshout is a full-time PhD candidate for the 4D-Fatigue project (www.4d-fatigue.com). Under supervision of Prof.dr.rr. Mirek Kaminski she graduated with distinction May 2014 at Delft University of Technology. She completed a BSc degree Mechanical Engineering and MSc Offshore and Dredging Engineering with a specialisation in Ship and Offshore Structures.

Paula performed her graduation research on multiaxial fatigue in a turret bearing of an offloading buoy in cooperation with TOTAL S.A. in Paris, France. During her graduation research she cooperated with National Oilwell Varco in Norway for experimental testing and got consulted by Ky Dang Van. Before graduation, Paula did an internship where she worked on an assessment procedure for calculating the criticality in mooring components. This work was done in cooperation with TOTAL S.A, Bureau Veritas and PD Technologies.

Paula’ s mission at Delft University of Technology is to improve the fundamental knowledge on multiaxial fatigue under non-proportional variable amplitude loading in welded joints of ship and offshore structures. She aims to relate this knowledge to real practice through modelling and experimental testing. Currently she is working on obtaining a worldwide network of experts and researchers in the field of fatigue and fracture mechanics.
