Ir. Reinier Bos

At an early age, Reinier his parents took him to the wereldhavendagen (harbour days) in Rotterdam. Fascinated by the sheer size of the ships he decided after high school to start his BSc in maritime technology. AFter following the first lectures on ship structures, the choice for a MSc specialization was made.

In the BSc, Reinier studied in Finland for three months with four of his friends. The project, a cooperation between Damen, MARIN and Det Norske Veritas, revolved around the design of an arctic offshore support vessel: the AMTSV. Following the fascination of ice, the BSc research was conducted in cooperation with MARIN: propeller-ice interaction tests were performed with artificial model ice. In the MSc, Reinier chose courses with emphasis on structural engineering and engineering fundamentals. The title of the graduation was "hydrodynamic load simplification through ultimate strength of a stiffened panel". Both eBSc and MSc were completed with the honours programme.

At this moment Reinier teaches the course "Construction and Strength, Special Subjects", containing finite element modelling, reliability and ultimate strength.
