Dr. Carey Walters

Dr. Carey Walters is currently an associate professor in the Maritime Transport and Technology section at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands. He researches fracture of steel due to extreme loadings, e.g. due to overloading at low temperatures, crash, or explosions. In addition, he has a part-time position at TNO (Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research) and conducts research on similar topics there. From 2009 until 2018, Carey worked full time at TNO, focusing on material failure. From 2004 until 2009, Carey completed his Ph.D. thesis at ICL in high strain rate failure of advanced high strength steels. While he was at MIT, he also represented the ICL as a visiting engineer to Ferrari. Prior to his time at MIT, he worked at Sikorsky Aircraft (2000 until 2004), where he simulated crash and ground loads of helicopters.
